Privacy Policy

The FilmGays App ("the app", "we", "us") is the companion app for our film club. It lets members sign in, vote on the next film, book seats at screenings, set up a profile, and comment on screenings. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

Who is responsible

The app is run by the FilmGays Community Admin. For any privacy question or request, contact us at dimartinomirko@gmail.com.

Information we collect

Account & sign-in. When you sign in with Google, Facebook, Apple, or email, we receive your email address, a display name, and the sign-in provider you used. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth.
Profile. A display name and, if you choose to add one, a profile photo you upload.
WhatsApp number. The phone number you add to your profile when you book a seat — see "Booking a seat" below for exactly what it's for and who can see it.
Push notifications. If you turn notifications on, a device push token so the app can send you seat offers, reminders and club updates.
Activity in the app. Your film votes/ballots, screening bookings, waitlist entries and "+1" guests, and the comments and reactions you post.
Basic technical data. Standard information needed to operate the service (e.g. request logs from our hosting provider). We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

How we use it

To run the film club: record votes and show results, manage screening bookings and waitlists, and display attendee lists.
To show your name and photo to other members in screenings, comments, and attendee lists.
To send essential service messages and respond to your requests.

We do not sell your personal data.

Booking a seat

Film nights mostly happen in members' homes, so booking a seat asks a little more of your profile than the rest of the app does.

Your WhatsApp number. Booking a seat requires a phone number so the club can reach you directly about screenings you book — for example, to send you the home address of a member-hosted film night on WhatsApp. Only the Community Admin can see your number. It is never shown to other members, never public, and never used for marketing or group broadcasts. We collect it because it is necessary to arrange the seat you book (performance of your membership booking arrangement). It is kept until you remove it or delete your account — you can view, change or remove it any time from your profile in the app.

Your profile photo. Booking a seat requires a real photo of your face on your profile, so members know who is coming to their home. When you pick a photo the app runs an on-device check that a face is present. The check happens entirely on your phone, stores nothing, and sends nothing off the device — we never analyse, match or identify faces.

Who we share it with

We only share data with the service providers that run the app on our behalf:

Supabase — authentication (sign-in and account identity).
Netlify — hosting and storage of app data, including profile details and photos (Netlify Blobs).
OneSignal — push notification delivery. When you enable notifications we share a device push token and your account identifier with OneSignal so the app can send you seat offers, reminders and club updates.
Google, Facebook, Apple — only when you choose that sign-in method, to authenticate you.

We may disclose data if required by law.

Data retention & deletion

We keep your data for as long as you use the app. You can ask us to delete your account data and voting record at any time — see Delete Your Data or email dimartinomirko@gmail.com. We action deletion requests promptly.

Deleting your account removes your profile — including your photo and your WhatsApp number, if you added one — along with your votes, bookings and other account data, and we also ask OneSignal to delete your push notification record.

Security

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and stored with our providers' standard protections. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under UK/EU GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to or restrict its processing. To exercise these rights, contact dimartinomirko@gmail.com.

Children

The app is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
